In the giant city "New Chang'an" in 2242, human memories can be stored, edited or even deleted like data. "Soul" has become a quantifiable commodity, and eternal life has become a dream within reach. However, beneath the bustling city, a strange undercurrent is surging. A series of deaths that cannot be explained by science began to occur: the victim's physical body was intact, but his digital consciousness stored in the "soul core" mysteriously disappeared, as if he had been "eaten" by something invisible.
The protagonist 1, **Ling Zhao**, is a "classical" private detective who is full of nostalgia for the old times. He insists on using outdated analog equipment and his own intuition to handle cases, looking for the humanity concealed by technology in the digital fog.
The protagonist 2, **Zhuyou**, is an "information ghost" whose identity is a mystery. She is disembodied, existing as an untraceable, fluid code. She seems to know the truth of these bizarre cases very well, sometimes providing key clues to Ling Zhao, and sometimes leading him into a deeper mystery.
As Ling Zhao gets deeper and deeper into the investigation, he discovers that behind these cases, there is a forgotten legend - at the end of the sea of data, "digital demons" are born who feed on logic and information. The end of technology seems to coincide with the starting point of myth. He must cooperate with the mysterious Zhu You to fight against this terror created by humans themselves that transcends understanding, and ultimately reveal the line between "soul" and "code" called "life and death."
