Bai Lingjue, an exemplary employee of the Underworld, has been having a run of bad luck lately. After accidentally letting a thousand-year-old evil spirit escape, she gets kicked into the human world by the King of Hell: “If you can't catch it, you can kiss your civil servant job goodbye!”
A survival guide for the human world:
Stay away from that super yang-heavy police captain, Tian Zhen Guo, or his energy will scatter your ghostly aura... But why does he keep “bumping into” her at murder scenes?
Refuse to work with her rival, Jin Taiheng, the Black Impermanence. But why does that guy keep turning up whenever she's scaling walls to catch ghosts, grinning and yelling, “Come on, partner!”?
Beware the “kind help” offered by cultivation-world big shot Piao Zhimin. This powerful ghost smiles gently, but treats evil spirits like playthings: “Xiao Lingjue, come on, beg me~”
The tea-loving apprentice she picked up, Jin Shuozhen, seems harmless, but... can someone explain why the tea he brews makes evil spirits appear?!
And so, the daily life of the Underworld's runaway White Impermanence becomes:
By day, she disguises herself as an ordinary human (unsuccessfully); by night, she chases ghosts all over the city (while someone keeps interfering); and all the while, she has to deal with four men with wildly different styles (exhausting).
But when they accidentally get caught up in a bizarre mystery spanning both the world of the living and the dead, Bai Lingjue discovers that the evil spirit's escape was an accident, but the “people” setting their sights on her are anything but simple.
