The Tangerine Candy Promise on the Rooftop

Five years ago, a doctored photo of them together made Jiang Yunian believe Ji Hezhou had betrayed him. Text messages intercepted by his mother and a deliberately concealed wait became a chasm between them, driving them to opposite ends of the country. For five years, Ji Hezhou held on to a red string and a camera, whispering Jiang Yunian's name as he photographed the stars in the desert. Jiang Yunian hid old photographs and filled his designs with promises he had never spoken aloud. Only when the interception records on an old phone came to light did the truth emerge, long delayed by time: every moment crushed by misunderstanding had been the other person's careful attempt to protect him. From orange candy to sunflowers by the sea, from a mother's interference to a family's reconciliation, they made their way through misunderstanding and grew through waiting. When the camera lens once again turned toward each other, every separation became part of the journey. Love is never a sudden blaze of passion; it is the determination to cross five years of wind and sand and still find light in the other's eyes.
