In the Name of the People: Starting in Handong, Qi Tongwei Refuses to Kneel

When Qi Tongwei died, he still had the unfinished cigarette clenched between his teeth.

With the barrel pressed beneath his chin, all he could think about was the rain on the sports field thirty years ago.

Rainwater mixed with blood from his nose and ran into his mouth. Liang Lu stood on the steps, her white dress like a flower dipped in poison. “Qi Tongwei, get down on your knees and beg me, and the anti-drug team captain’s position is yours.”

In his previous life, he knelt. From then on, his backbone was broken. He became the “phoenix man” everyone in Handong’s political circles mocked behind his back, and finally shot himself at Guying Ridge. No one even came to collect his body.

But this time, Qi Tongwei suddenly opened his eyes

The rain was still falling, Liang Lu’s white dress was still fluttering, and the laughter of his classmates had yet to die away.

He touched his nose. Warm blood clung to his fingertips.

“Go to hell.”

Qi Tongwei tore off his soaked shirt, revealing his bruised back. Meeting Liang Lu’s stunned gaze, he walked down the sports field step by step. “I’m not getting on my knees this time!”
