Deep Dive: The Sound of Silence

Living beings surfaced from the deep sea, while strange bodies crawled out from rocky cliffs.

Like any other day, Xiyang kept away from the cameras in the corners and out of sight of the crowd.

He found an empty spot in the suburbs, lay down, and stared blankly at the night sky.

Slowly, the strange sky and the illusory moonlight seeped into his eyes.

He could not sense the people’s joy or the city’s clamor.

He could not sense the fish in the ocean or the birds flying through the mountains.

He could not sense minerals and dust developing awareness, or rotting corpses stirring their bones.

There were so many things he did not know.

It was as if something in the depths of the cosmos had come alive.
