Love is merely a coincidence, like two specks of dust meeting in a shaft of sunlight, two fallen leaves touching in a whirlpool, or two lost travelers taking shelter in the same cave during a storm.
We always love to wrap love in the glow of destiny, saying it was arranged in a past life, that the Matchmaker tied the red thread, that our meeting was meant to be. But when you think about it, you just happened to wear a white shirt that day, and I just happened to look back one extra time. The cafe just happened to have two seats free, and the server just happened to place us next to each other. We just happened to miss the last bus and had to wait twenty minutes longer at the bus stop in the rain.
Fate never deliberately arranges love. It simply scatters a handful of seeds and lets them drift among the crowds. Those who end up in love are just two seeds that happen to land in the same patch of soil and happen to sprout at the same time. More seeds drift in different directions: some land on concrete, some are pecked up by birds, and some are buried so deep underground they never see the sun.
We praise the wonder of love, but forget that there are already seven billion people in the world, and countless chance encounters happen every day. You fall in love with this person simply because you met someone suitable enough at the right time, and that person happened to return your love. At a different time, in a different place, or in a different mood, the ending might have been completely different.
So don't let lost love make you suffer as if the world had ended. It was only a chance passing. And don't gloat over the love you've found. It was only a chance gift. Like a sandcastle by the sea, it happens to take shape when the tide comes in, and happens to disappear when the tide goes out.
