The Perfect Parts
When a “perfect human” assembled from the remains of thirteen people appears at an art exhibition, a string of murders has only just begun its grim reckoning.
Beneath the spotlights of Binhai City’s grand art festival, a dust cover slips away to reveal a shocking “masterpiece”: a homeless man’s chest fused with a philanthropist’s arm; a doctor’s syringe pressed against a prostitute’s stocking-clad leg; a sumo wrestler’s Mickey Mouse tattoo wrapped around the serene face of a middle school student. This desecration of life beats its heart and rolls its eyes before a horrified crowd!
Shen Zhao, a former forensic pathologist, is dragged into the vortex. He can seize fragments from the death memories lingering in organs:
■ On the back of a Patek Philippe watch face, an exorbitant bill for organ trafficking is engraved.
■ The strange symbol on a girl’s eyebrow piercing reveals a list of recipients in the cold.
■ A love letter sewn into a homeless man’s chest hides, among its bloodstains, clues to an unsolved abandoned-baby case from thirty years ago.
Meanwhile, the killer, the “Sculptor,” is carving out new rules in the shadows with a scalpel:
> The cyanide pill in the liver is a death sentence for the greedy.
> The copper harmonica hanging in the lung plays the miner’s final overture of revenge.
> The holy hymn woven in gold thread across the heart twists into a devil’s commandment in a pool of blood.
Only when Shen Zhao discovers his own DNA sample hidden in a firefighter’s charred kidney does he realize the true prey in this ritual is none other than the hunter himself…
Tear away the perfect façade,
and every filthy treasure and sacred stain
is a severed piece of the same human nature.
