Lu You was a famous patriotic poet in the Southern Song Dynasty, and Tang Wan was his cousin. The two were childhood sweethearts and got married in 1144. After the marriage, they had a deep relationship, but Lu You's mother was dissatisfied with Tang Wan, possibly because Tang Wan affected Lu You's fame or failed to have children, so she eventually forced Lu You to divorce his wife.
Ten years later, the two met again in Shen Yuan. Lu You wrote the famous "The Hairpin-headed Phoenix: Red Crispy Hands", and Tang Wan died in depression shortly after he wrote the poem "The Hairpin-headed Phoenix: The World is Poor". Lu You missed Tang Wan all his life. He visited Shen Garden many times in his later years and wrote poems in memory of her.
