Dual male leads: Emperor (receiving partner) vs. Regent (penetrating partner)
On the throne of the Great Yao Dynasty, sixteen-year-old Emperor Xiao Chengyu treads on thin ice. The former emperor died suddenly, and imperial power slipped away. His uncle, Prince Jing, Xie Yanzhi, took complete control of the court under the title of regent. His iron-fisted rule made him a sword hanging over Xiao Chengyu’s head.
At court, Xie Yanzhi’s word is law. He is the uncrowned ruler before whom every official bows. In the imperial study, he closes in step by step under the pretense of “teaching,” his domineering manner concealing a possessiveness that chills the blood. Xiao Chengyu bides his time, appearing as docile as a lamb, while the wildfire of reclaiming his authority burns in his eyes. He hates Xie Yanzhi’s tyranny, hates being trapped in the palm of his hand, yet on a certain late night, he finds himself remembering the cool touch of Xie Yanzhi’s cloak brushing the back of his hand as he shielded him from an assassin.
Xie Yanzhi’s love is a shackle wrapped in political intrigue. He eliminates rivals for Xiao Chengyu and guards the realm for him, yet also breaks his wings and confines him to the imperial palace. “You may have eyes for no one but me.” The blood-soaked whisper is both a threat and an obsession he has never dared to confess.
As the young emperor secretly builds his power, the regent is ambushed on campaign, and the confrontation in the Golden Throne Hall strips away every disguise, they are sovereign and subject, enemies, and each other’s only weakness. Ambition and desire twist together in a frenzy. Every clash cuts like a blade, and every moment of closeness carries the resolve to destroy them both.
“What I hate is your power, not you.”
“Then I’ll place the whole realm before you in exchange for a lifetime with your eyes on me alone.”
In this struggle between throne and royal seat, this entanglement of love and hate, who will ultimately imprison whose heart?
The plot is good but a bit too fast. The emotional and story lines could be slower.
