This work is the first volume of Shufei's Dream Chaser series, Shufei's Dream: Sui and Tang, a Play Amid the Smoke and Dust. The protagonist, Shufei, travels in a dream from the modern era to the Sui and Tang dynasties, becoming Li Keshan. He follows Zhang Guo, the Sage of Mysticism, to learn the Way and practice cultivation. Later, he leaves the mountains to join his elder brother Li Jing and help Li Shimin expand his territory, ushering in the prosperous Tang dynasty.
