Modern Beauties Transmigrate to the Tang Dynasty tells the story of Lili, Xiaoxiao, Jingjing, and Tingting from the girl group “Starlight,” along with their choreographer Yu'er. While livestreaming their viral dance “Grand Ambitions,” they are swept into Chang'an during the Tang Dynasty by a sudden rift in time and space.
The five land on a performance stage beside Qujiang Pool. Their modern clothes and dancing cause a commotion, while Yu'er mistakes everything for livestream special effects and insists on finishing the dance. At first, they struggle to adapt to life in the Tang Dynasty, but use their modern knowledge to survive: Lili helps an inn manage its accounts, Xiaoxiao creates a hit with her revamped Tang-style makeup, Jingjing is recruited by a music troupe for her dancing, Tingting saves lives with her first-aid knowledge, and Yu'er becomes a “prodigy” by incorporating guitar techniques into the pipa.
In Chang'an, they meet famous figures such as Li Bai, Du Fu, and Bai Juyi. Li Bai challenges Yu'er to a musical duel, Du Fu is moved by their kindness, and Bai Juyi writes a poem about their dancing. However, An Lushan's forces also set their sights on them, and they find themselves in danger. At last, on the day the stars align, the five perform “Grand Ambitions” again on the stage beside Qujiang Pool. With help from Li Bai and their other friends, they use the rift in time and space to return to the modern world.
Back in the present, the livestream is still going, and the photos of the Tang Dynasty on their phones prove that everything was real. Their transmigration becomes a unique memory of their youth, strengthening their bond as a group, and the song “Grand Ambitions” gains a meaning that transcends time and space.
