The Pujiang Tide Rises: A Century in Retrospect

When Cheng Mobai, a famous Peking opera performer, took part in a secret operation against collaborators with the Japanese, he fell into the Huangpu River. When he opened his eyes again, he was on Shanghai’s Bund in 2018, rescued by Yu Wanqing, a scholar who studies local history.

To Cheng Mobai’s shock, this woman he had never met looked exactly like Yu Xueyi, the fellow agent he had once harbored resentment toward eighty years earlier. Because of a mishap during a crucial operation, he had always believed Yu Xueyi was a traitor.

As an old, long-sealed diary resurfaced, the mysteries of eighty years ago gradually came to light: Yu Xueyi had actually gone undercover in enemy territory. For the sake of her people, she bore misunderstanding and slander alone, expressing her devotion through quiet endurance.

Meanwhile, descendants of a family living overseas were secretly searching for an ancient relic called the Tideborn Mirror, said to contain a mysterious power capable of affecting space and time.
