Wang Dongjun was born into a wealthy family in the late Qing Dynasty. As his father’s youngest son, born in his later years, he was doted on from childhood and lived in luxury. Naturally, he grew up with all the airs of a rich young master. As an adult, he spent his days idling away, eating, drinking, and chasing women, living a carefree life.
Zhao Tianci, the youngest son of a servant in the Wang household, was about the same age as Wang Dongjun, but his life was entirely different.
After his family fell on hard times, Zhao Tianci was sent to the imperial palace to become a eunuch at the age of eight. But soon after he entered the palace, the Xinhai Revolution swept across the country. The decaying Qing Dynasty was like a guttering candle in the wind, on the verge of collapse.
With Yuan Shikai fanning the flames, Puyi, the Xuantong Emperor and the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty, abdicated. This meant Zhao Tianci became the last eunuch of the Qing Dynasty, and, indeed, of all Chinese history.
Fortune and misfortune go hand in hand. What lay ahead for Wang Dongjun and Zhao Tianci? What twists and turns would their lives take?
Let’s wait and see.
