The Scent of Herbs on a Sword Tassel: The Physician Who Saved a Swordsman

I was an apprentice at a small clinic in Jiangnan when I rescued a masked man covered in blood on a rainy night.

The sword wound at his waist was deep enough to expose bone, yet he clutched a carved wooden box protectively.

“Don’t open it,” he said, grabbing my hand before he passed out. “You’ll die.”

Three days later, soldiers surrounded the clinic. “Hand over the former dynasty’s treasure, and we’ll spare your life.”

I was trembling as I brewed medicine when I heard him chuckle from the inner room. “What are you afraid of?”

His bloodstained fingertips brushed the side of my neck. “The box holds my betrothal gifts. I’m going to marry you!”
