Jiang Nuan, who died of overwork at 32, is reborn in the summer of 1999, just after the high school entrance exams, and unexpectedly binds herself to a Tycoon Sign-In System. Daily sign-in rewards include cash, real estate, and luxury cars. Meet spending goals to earn doubled funds and miraculous study pills! She promptly comes clean to her parents, who run a restaurant and supermarket, and the whole family moves to the provincial capital.
Armed with the System’s rewards, Jiang Nuan moves into a luxury apartment with sweeping views of the river, only to come face-to-face with her stunning neighbor: Gu Yu, a top student and campus heartthrob with a beauty mark at the corner of his eye and another by his collarbone, along with his boisterous childhood friend, Chen Rui. When she scores 1,006 points in the province’s top science-track class, crushing the competition and tying with Gu Yu for the highest rank in their year, the double challenge of the tycoon System and school life begins: a battle of geniuses as they grind through practice problems to get into Peking or Tsinghua University, and a plan to win over the neighbor living “right next door.”
Her love of money makes her eyes gleam when she counts cash, while her weakness for good looks short-circuits completely at the sight of Gu Yu’s beauty marks and collarbone. From prime retail space on Xuefu Road to pre-IPO shares in tech companies, Jiang Nuan uses her tycoon capital to lift her whole family into a higher social class. But the astronomical balance in her bank account and the faint glimmer in Gu Yu’s cool eyes both leave her heart racing out of control.
The subject matter is good, and the writing is okay, but it's a pity that the female protagonist is a love-minded one, while the male protagonist is a high school student with a domineering boss.
