Siheyuan: Shocking the Whole Yard from the Start

Li Chen was a corporate drone who had spent ten years scrabbling to get by in modern society, as well as a veteran fan of “doomsday survival.” While organizing his underground shelter one day, he accidentally died of electrocution and transmigrated into the world of Love in the Courtyard in 1965. He became a new resident in the courtyard. His parents, martyrs who had died in the line of duty, had left him a modest home and a secure job in the procurement department of a steel mill. On the second day after Li Chen moved into the courtyard, he witnessed Silly Zhu stealing a chicken from Xu Damao’s family to help Qin Huairu’s family. The whole courtyard gathered for a meeting. Yi Zhonghai, the First Uncle, had planned to smooth things over, asking everyone to “show generosity” and donate money and goods to help Qin Huairu through her difficulties. He even tried to guilt-trip the newcomer Li Chen into “setting an example.” Right then, Li Chen awakened the “Get Stronger by Talking Back” System. Whenever he provoked powerful negative emotions in the courtyard’s “worst of the worst” (anger, jealousy, frustration, or being completely rattled), he could earn “comeback points” and exchange them for any supplies or skills in the System’s shop.

Facing the First Uncle’s moral blackmail, Li Chen fired back: “First Uncle, are you asking me to hand over the martyr’s compensation to feed all those lazybones in the Jia family who do nothing all day? Are you insulting the martyrs, or undermining socialism?”

His words rattled Yi Zhonghai on the spot, and the System rewarded him with a beginner’s gift pack: [Unlimited Storage Warehouse] and [100 jin of pork].
