In the 12th year of the Republic of China, in Qinghe Village, Tu Yamei, a local girl, met and fell in love with Abao, a tenant from the same village, by chance. The two made a vow of love under the willow tree: to escape from the landlord's house and run away together. Helpless and tortured by fate, they both threw themselves into the river.
