Xin, the culprit behind the decline of spiritual energy throughout the heavens, split himself into three. One part, Xuan Xin, serves in the Judge’s Hall of the underworld, his divinity eternal. Another, Su Xin, has the heart of an innocent child and grows up in the mortal world to become what all living beings hope for. The final part is Xin himself, just as he was at the beginning.
Three years before the spiritual qi revival, a black cat named Meow Handsome was born at the moment Xin awoke. By a twist of fate, it awakened its spiritual nature in an age without spiritual energy and was born with the supernatural ability to see into the underworld. After trying to take revenge on someone who abused cats, it was badly injured by a protective talisman, then found by Su Xin.
Yuan Lao’s ascension to godhood broke the heavenly law of “Severing Heaven from Earth” laid down by the Teacher. Spiritual energy began to revive in the human world. With the decline of spiritual energy and the Teacher’s heavenly law working together, the gods of the Heavenly Court, who had seized the chance to descend to the mortal world for a vacation, were forced to awaken and return to their posts.
Some gods were unwilling to give up their vacation, so they posted assignments through Lingjing, the supernatural affairs department in the human world. The tasks were handed to the Heaven-Appointed Punishers, or “Heavenly Executioners,” a group made up of rogue immortals and newly awakened cultivators.
As the child of the previous Celestial Emperor and the culprit behind the decline of spiritual energy throughout the heavens, Xin is under special supervision and serves as a Heavenly Executioner.
“Ah Xin, hurry up! There’s another new assignment!” Meow Handsome was full of energy as it pointed to the task board on the Lingjing app, calling out to Su Xin, who was engrossed in a game.
“Coming! Lao Zhao, give me back my house!” Just as Su Xin was about to quit MC, Zhao Gongming blew his painstakingly built house to smithereens. Su Xin glared at him with watery eyes while Zhao Gongming rubbed the back of his head and gave an embarrassed grin.
“Fine, we’ll talk when we get back. We’ll talk when we get back.” Yang Jiao showed no awareness that he was the one responsible, and urged everyone to head out while Zhao Gongming looked on resentfully.
