[Mystery + investigation + revenge + two male leads]
A broken copper coin from a bygone dynasty leads to a shocking beheading on a rainy night and pries open a corruption scandal buried for twenty years...
Su Yan, chief constable of the Ministry of Justice, follows the clues to a stinking mass grave, where he encounters Chen Yan, an itinerant physician. In Chen Yan's hand, a willow-leaf scalpel is cutting into another fragment of the same coin.
The fate of three hundred thousand taels of disaster-relief silver becomes the link between present-day killings and conspiracies of the past.
As innocent people continue to die and the coin appears like a death warrant, the two are swept into a storm aimed straight at the heart of the empire.
One is a hound of the imperial court; the other, a vengeful ghost. Their fates are bound tight by copper and silver-white bones.
Buried sins must ultimately be paid for in heads...
