Half a Life Adrift, Half a Life in Dust

A new work is here! Welcome to read my story on Tomato Novel. I hope you enjoy it. Your support is what keeps me writing, and I'll do my best to tell every story well! Half is "a drifting life": the uncertainty of life, perhaps the gap between ideals and reality, the unpredictable turns of fate, or the struggle of being unable to choose for yourself, all colored by helplessness and acceptance of life's uncertainty. The other half is "dust": the tangled bustle of the mortal world, the real experience of getting by in society, the daily concerns of food and bills, the ties between people, and life itself, steeped in desire, responsibility, and emotion, with all the understanding of the ordinary world that comes with it. These two states are not separate, but intertwined and inseparable: a drifting life always rises and falls in the mortal world, and the bustle of that world gives it tangible weight. This contrast between "half illusion, half reality" is an honest summation of life from a middle-aged perspective: there is both the detachment of feeling that life is only a temporary sojourn, and the grounded comfort of everyday human life.

"Half a Life Adrift, Half a Life in the Dust" draws on no complicated allusions, yet its simple words strike a chord with those in middle age. It is not a rejection of life, but a gentle look back at the first half of it: acknowledging the helplessness of wandering, accepting the trivialities of the everyday, and finally understanding, through the intertwining of "drifting life" and "dust," that life is a journey in which illusion and reality coexist. This reflection holds the clarity gained from a lifetime of experience, as well as a simple reverence for life.
