The protagonist, Lin Yuan, is a modern graduate student in history. While researching ancient mythology, he is unexpectedly sucked into a "spacetime turbulence" and takes possession of the innate divine beast Kunpeng. This is on the eve of Hongjun's merging with the Dao, when the primordial world is caught between chaos and order, with the Great Dao yet to manifest and the laws only beginning to take shape. Kunpeng's original body is the ruler of the Northern Dark Sea, naturally wielding the laws of space and time thanks to his innate Dao body: "In the Northern Dark Sea there is a fish called Kun; it transforms into a bird called Peng." His temperament is proud and decisive, and he stands alongside the Three Pure Ones, Nuwa, and other mighty beings as one of the "six candidates for sainthood" in the primordial world.
The story revolves around seizing opportunities, contending for fortune, and defying fate. Using his modern mindset, the protagonist reshapes the rules of the primordial world, carefully advancing through three pivotal events: the struggle for seats at Zixiao Palace, the Lich Calamity, and the Investiture of the Gods. In the end, he escapes the shackles of the Heavenly Dao, proves his own sanctity, and establishes the "Primordial Dao Lineage."
