The Clumsy Immortal: The God of Wealth and Matchmaker Descend to Earth

The Dull God of Wealth, Zhao Yuanbao, has seen his Treasure Bowl shrink into a chipped enamel mug. The Clumsy Matchmaker, Hong Xianxian, has her marriage strings tangled into a knot in her hair. After causing trouble at a heavenly banquet, this pair of lovable misfits are banished to the mortal realm, where their first stop is a neighborhood trash can.

Bouncing on their backsides and yanking each other’s hair become everyday occurrences. Their money-making spells earn just enough for grilled cold noodles, and their first matchmaking attempt pairs up two stray cats. But who could have guessed that, with gold leaf stuck to their faces and red strings tripping people up, this bumbling duo would bring the whole neighborhood to life? On a stormy night, they use the enamel mug to put together a gold-leaf rain shelter; they tie up a bickering couple’s memories in a lantern; even the square-dancing grannies hold up “Immortal Couple” signs and clamor for the next installment.

Then Professor Shi crashes the scene with a black crystal ball. Hong Xianxian goes blind, and Zhao Yuanbao offers his blood to sacrifice their magical artifact. Only then do they realize that clumsy protection is the most touching, and bonds forged through bickering are the strongest. From the neighborhood New Year market to Classroom 302, they use gold leaf to capture the warmth of everyday life and red strings to bind the hearts of all living beings. Even Heaven sends them a talisman demanding an update: “Return at once! And bring that scam-artist cat’s great-grandkitten along for a stroll around Heaven!”
