A Fortune Teller's Criminal Investigation Notes

Gu Yue, a criminal psychology expert, is always teased for having “cheat-level intuition.” No one knows that this adorable, slightly scatterbrained young woman carries the memories of a diviner from the world of cultivation, allowing her to see the hidden threads of cause and effect in the flow of spiritual energy.

Qiu Yan, head of the city bureau’s major crimes unit, can’t stand “mysticism.” This cool, disciplined former special forces officer turned detective trusts only the chain of evidence forged through hard work, until he meets Gu Yue.

At the scene of a copycat murder, she points to a spot where the “spiritual energy is disturbed” and declares, “The copycat is connected to the victim from ten years ago.” He confirms it through surveillance footage and footprints. In a locked-room case at a library, she reads the “murderous aura” between the lines of an ancient text, while he uses logic to reconstruct the mechanism.

Fourteen bizarre cases reveal a sprawling conspiracy. On one side lie the tangled threads of karma left over from her past life; on the other, the shadows of comrades he has buried deep within himself. Qiu Yan goes from “Your intuition can’t be trusted” to “Her judgment is our lead,” and begins keeping the safety charms she draws inside his bulletproof vest. Gu Yue goes from “Justice is upheld through procedure” to “His convictions are a light,” gradually making room for him in her plans.

When the malice of a wicked cultivator’s lingering soul meets a police officer’s gun, and a diviner’s foresight encounters human justice, this unlikely duo will finally understand: the best way to solve a case is for intuition and evidence to work in sync; the deepest bond is trusting someone completely, even when you don’t understand their world.
