From the start, a modern underworld boss dies after being betrayed by one of his men, then is reborn in the body of Crown Prince Zhu Cilang in the fifteenth year of the Chongzhen era, at the end of the Ming dynasty. To avoid being sold off to Li Zicheng by his maternal grandfather two years later, Zhu Cilang uses modern military training methods to put his mere 800 Eastern Palace Guards through three months of grueling drills. Once the guards are wholly loyal to him, Zhu Cilang leads them in raiding the mansion of his maternal grandfather, Zhou Kui, on a dark and stormy night, making off with more than a million taels of silver. He then flees the capital with the silver and his 800 guards, disguises himself, and heads for Shanxi. There, Zhu Cilang rallies the people to kill officials and rebel, seizes the gentry's and landlords' wealth, and distributes their land and grain. In no time, the people flock to his cause. Within months, his rebel army grows to a million strong and successfully takes control of most of Shanxi. Among them are 100,000 elite soldiers trained using modern military methods, with the former Eastern Palace Guards serving as their middle- and upper-ranking officers. Once the elite troops are ready, Zhu Cilang first uses the rebel army's name to raid dozens of merchant families who colluded with the Jianzhou Jurchens, led by the Eight Great Jin Merchants. They seize more than 200 million taels of silver, along with grain, salt, iron, and other supplies worth tens of millions of taels. Zhu Cilang then trades some of the supplies with the Mongol tribes for 100,000 warhorses and forms a 50,000-strong cavalry. Next, Zhu Cilang leads 300,000 troops to surround the capital and sends former Eastern Palace eunuchs familiar to his father, Chongzhen, to sneak into the imperial palace and secretly plot with the emperor to seize the wealth of the capital's powerful families. Raiding homes is thrilling once, and raiding them over and over is even better!
It looks okay, but the country has been re-established, and there are not many generals under his command. In the end, he has to go to the battlefield by himself. It's so speechless.
