Wang Zhuang, a military enthusiast staying on campus over summer break, jolts awake to bloodcurdling screams in his dormitory. His former classmates have become bloodthirsty monsters, and a virus is spreading from Q City University to consume the world.
With the military imposing a quarantine and the campus overrun, he draws on his martial arts and weapons skills to fight for survival, starting by killing the zombie next door. Along the way, he gathers a martial arts goddess, the campus doctor, a track-star teammate, and a weapons expert. But he also clashes with a selfish student council president, and barely escapes both a power struggle in the cafeteria and a sudden zombie horde.
Once they break out of campus, they find the city in ruins. A “doctor” they meet by chance offers false hope, while a big brother who stood by them dies in a sea of zombies. When they reach the so-called “safe zone,” they discover that the doctor was the one who started the virus, and that human infighting is deadlier than zombies.
From campus to the city, from trusting others to standing alone, the blade in Wang Zhuang’s hand grows ever sharper. In an apocalypse where 90% of humanity has become zombies, he puts no faith in a cure and waits for no rescue. He relies on himself to carve out a place to survive. This is the martial artist’s law of survival in the end times.
