In the late Ming, Li Zicheng's ragtag refugees formed an army, sweeping through everything like locusts. With disasters year after year and starving corpses everywhere, survival was a struggle. Rather than call them rebels for shouting that they would overthrow the Qing and restore the Ming, it would be better to say they were searching for hope of survival. Only hope could unite people. In this age of chaos, there were talented people and those who killed with wild abandon; some protected their homes and people, others fawned over the enemy and defected, and some even raised the banner of the Zhu Ming dynasty. But in the end, none of them truly had the people's hearts.
The protagonist transmigrates to the late Ming and builds a large number of tulou earthen buildings in Zhangzhou, preserving the cultural legacy of the late Ming, winning over people's hearts, and employing military, cultural, and strategic means to resist the Qing without restoring the Ming. All he wants is to preserve a glimmer of light amid the chaos.
