I Mistook the Years of Youth for You

"Comrade Ye Xingyao, it took everything you had to become the nation's first television news anchor. This is the highest honor, and a historic first. Are you really going to give it up?"

Ye Xingyao jerked her head up and saw the television station director's solemn face. Only then did she realize she had been reborn.

The application form still lay open on the desk, stamped with a bright red seal. Ye Xingyao snatched it up. "No, I'll go."

The director let out a sigh of relief, a smile appearing on his face. "Wonderful! The nation's first evening news broadcast will begin in half a month. As the first anchor to appear on screen, you must report to the Beicheng Television Station before then."

He patted Ye Xingyao on the shoulder. "Use this time to prepare, and let your family know, too. This is such an honor. I'm sure your husband, Regiment Commander Fu, will support you as well."

Ye Xingyao smiled wryly and turned to leave the office.

As she walked home, memories came flooding back like a rising tide.
