A Little Sunny Day on the Farm Path

From clumsily trimming green beans for the first time to chasing butterflies through the wheat fields with the uncles; from shyly dodging the unfamiliar uncles to daring to climb onto He Haonan’s shoulders to look at the stars; from wandering along the field ridges with a rabbit hutch in her arms to helping the uncles pass out seeds with dew beneath her feet... Little Qing Tian’s laughter, mixed with the rush of the irrigation pipes, the crackle of the wood-burning stove, and the bleating of the sheep, became the sweetest melody on the farm. This isn’t a book about earth-shattering events. It’s simply a story about a little girl and ten grown men: about how sweet the first strawberry of the morning can be, how high the swing can soar at dusk, about bandages on scrapes and osmanthus flowers in porridge, and how the soil grows not only crops but countless fuzzy, tender forms of love. The field ridges stretch far, and life moves slowly. Under the care of her ten uncles, Little Qing Tian’s childhood grows, little by little, like waves of wheat reaching for the sun.
