The afternoon sun shines through the huge floor-to-ceiling windows, cutting bright spots on the floor. Shen Yue stood in the "Memory of the Anti-Japanese War" exhibition area, his fingertips almost touching the rusty artillery shell in the display cabinet.
The shell shell is gray-black, with uneven edges and is full of pits eroded by the years. Only a vague and strange spiral pattern at the tail glows with a very faint luster under the light. The label reads: "1937, left over from the Battle of Songhu, Japanese Type 92 infantry gun shell casings."
As a student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shen Yue knew the structure of this weapon very well; and as a minor in modern history, he knew even more clearly that behind this cold metal was the bloody battle at Sihang Warehouse, the corpses littering the Suzhou River, and the struggle and roar of the entire nation in its darkest moment.
