When He Yuzhu wakes up, he has transmigrated into the world of the TV drama Love in the Courtyard, taken over the role of He Yuzhu, and bound himself to a “Capitalist System.”
To avoid being bled dry by the courtyard’s pack of beasts, He Yuzhu immediately declares that he’ll drain them first. He starts with the queen of bloodsuckers, Qin Huairu.
“Want me to bring you a lunchbox? No problem. For each lunchbox, you can tidy my room for a month.”
“Want me to pay your tuition? Sure. For two yuan and fifty cents, you can wash my feet for a month.”
“Want me to help you out? Fine, come warm my bed for a month.”
Before long, Qin Huairu has run up a debt to He Yuzhu that she could never repay in her lifetime.
When Qin Huairu finally comes to her senses, she is instantly overcome with despair.
“Waaah, Silly Zhu, I’ll never be able to repay what I owe you in this lifetime. Couldn’t you find it in your heart to let me off?”
He Yuzhu immediately replies, “It’s fine. You still have Xiaodang and Huaihua, don’t you? They can take over your position and serve me from now on...”
And Qin Huairu isn’t the only one. He Yuzhu bleeds everyone else in the courtyard dry, too.
Jia Zhangshi is forced to clean public toilets, Bang Geng is sent to prison to work a sewing machine, and the First, Second, and Third Masters are put to work collecting trash to pay off their debts.
When they reach old age, they try to guilt-trip He Yuzhu into giving in.
But He Yuzhu only sneers. “Still trying to set me up for a happy family reunion over dumplings? A pack of beasts like you think you deserve that? Dream on. Get back to work, all of you!”
