Yue culture is an important part of Chinese culture and forms the historical roots of Zhejiang culture and Shaoxing. This book is the culmination of the author's decade-plus of dedicated research into the history of Yue culture. It makes comprehensive use of surviving printed texts, archaeological discoveries of bronzes and inscriptions made since the twentieth century, and pre-Qin bamboo-slip texts unearthed over the past thirty years. It carefully evaluates and incorporates the research on Yue history by leading scholars from China and abroad, including Li Xueqin, Ma Chengyuan, Zhang Min, Chen Yuanfu, Lin Huadong, Cao Jinyan, and Dong Shan. The book examines the origins and development of Yue culture, its emergence from history, and the main features of its culture at the height of the Yue kingdom's power. It also presents a thorough, well-grounded account of Yue culture's defining elements, achievements, and value in the modern world.
