Qin Liangyu was a famous female general in the late Ming dynasty. Born into a family of scholars, she studied military strategy and martial arts from a young age. As an adult, she and her husband, Ma Qiancheng, served the imperial court together and took part in putting down Yang Yinglong’s rebellion in Bozhou, demonstrating exceptional military talent. After her husband’s death, she took over his post and continued to fight. During the campaigns against the Qing army, she led the White-Pole Soldiers to victory on many occasions. At the Battle of Hun River, though vastly outnumbered, her troops fought with fearless courage. She later took part in numerous campaigns, including the suppression of rebellions by native chieftains. Throughout her life, she fought on countless battlefields and remained steadfastly loyal, defending the Ming dynasty’s borders. She is the only woman in history to have her own biography in the official dynastic record of eminent generals and ministers as a renowned general of a dynasty.
