Thinking of You, Thinking Not to Think of You

Two days before the engagement ceremony.

Lu Shixu pinched the tip of my finger and suddenly kissed it.

“Niannian, don’t girls love getting their nails done? How come you never do yours?”

I was ironing the dress I’d wear the day after tomorrow. Smiling, I replied, “I’m on the computer all day. Nails would make typing difficult.”

“Go get them done. French almond nails look nice.”

His thumb brushed the edge of my nail.

“Something with a sheer pink base and an ombre finish. It’ll really suit your skin tone.”

Hot steam hissed from the iron and scalded me.

I shuddered and looked up at him.

“When did you get so knowledgeable about nails?”
