Three-Body Problem & Primordial World fan fiction
[Restarted. The previous ending was a mess and a little rushed...]
Lin Yue spent his weekends immersed in two kinds of atmosphere: the stale smell of cotton stuffing in the sofa’s sagging cushions, and the dry, musty scent rising from the pages of The Three-Body Problem. An open pizza box sat nearby, its cold cheese congealed into a translucent film on the plate, mingling with a Primordial World commentary playing aloud on his phone. The streamer was shouting, “Ancestor Sorcerer Zhu Jiuyin reverses the orbits of the stars!” just as Lin Yue’s fingertip brushed the bold words “Do not answer.” Suddenly, the power strip spat blue-white sparks, like an electrified snake licking the back of the hand he had resting on the edge of the table.
When he opened his eyes again, a searchlight’s beam cut through the night and pinned him to the frozen earth at Red Coast Base.
Green light from the control panel washed over Ye Wenjie’s profile. Her eyelashes cast delicate shadows across the waveforms reflected on the screen. As that scene overlapped with an illustration from the book, Lin Yue looked down and saw the gold-embossed words “The Great Way is fifty, yet Heaven derives forty-nine” on his T-shirt, along with half a crumb of pizza.
“Primordial World Compendium activated. Synchronizing Host’s knowledge base.”
A coldly glowing panel appeared in his mind: formulas for converting Pangu’s Axe’s world-opening force, dimensional anchoring parameters for the Taiji Diagram, radiation resistance coefficients for the Ancestor Sorcerers’ bodies. They were all bits of research he had posted on forums, but now they had become blades tempered in reality. Feeling the rough edges of a book page still on his fingertip, Lin Yue pressed a hand to his racing heart.
He had long since forgotten his social anxiety. After all, when faced with the Sophons’ blockade and the Droplets’ impact, no one understood better than he did which page of the “script” to turn to, or which Primordial World divine art to use to draw a new boundary in this dark forest.
A Primordial World fan brings a System into The Three-Body Problem and rewrites the Dark Forest.
