Peach Blossom Monk: Garan's Dream

Buddha can save all living beings. A person can only save themselves.

He was born to be a monk, and trained in the mountains until he was twenty before descending to save all living beings. Before he left, the old abbot told him that everything in the world had its own purpose, and that nothing should be forced.

He did not understand. Eager to go down the mountain, he set out to fulfill his wish: to save all living beings.

Three years later, he returned to the mountains, dressed in rags, carrying a broken alms bowl and accompanied by a female spirit.

“Master, I don't understand. I recite sutras, pray for the living, and perform rites for the dead. Why do they call me useless?”

His master gave him no answer, only telling him to think it through for himself. He knelt before the Buddha and recited sutras again and again, while the female spirit silently kept him company.

One day, the female spirit asked, “Little Master, could you take me home?”

Without hesitation, he left the mountain temple with her and returned to the mortal world to take her home.
