Abandoned as an infant in the mountains, he was fortunate enough to be taken in by a Daoist master. Over eighteen years of training, he absorbed the strengths of many schools and mastered Daoist arts and supernatural powers. As an adult, he obeys his master’s orders, descends the mountain to gain experience, and seeks to uncover why his parents abandoned him.
He travels south to Hong Kong, Macau, and Lingnan to read feng shui and discern the balance of yin and yang; north to the great grasslands in search of Changshengtian; east to the Northeast, where he outwits shamanic sorcerers; and west to the snowy Tibetan plateau, where he discusses scripture and the Dao with eminent monks of Esoteric Buddhism. To keep the secret arts and treasures of China from being lost, he battles Southeast Asian practitioners of gu and Japanese shikigami.
