In 1930, a sudden surge of subterranean fire struck Tengchong in western Yunnan. Using his family’s traditional luopan compass, geomancer Li Muzi discovered a blood-jade vein that had sustained three generations of his family. Deep within the vein, however, he found a fragment of a bronze mirror engraved with ancient Dian script. The vision of an Antarctic pyramid that appeared in the mirror revealed the truth behind his father’s disappearance twenty years earlier: the Eye of the Yellow Springs Sea, left behind three thousand years ago when Gonggong crashed into Mount Buzhou in his fury, was coveted by a mysterious organization called the Xuan Yin Cult.
At the same time, Qingfeng, a Daoist priest from Mount Longhu, was attacked at night by a corpse demon, and the Blood Soul Banner he had kept suppressed for a century began to stir. In the Northeast, Ma Yi, a spirit medium who communed with immortals, was possessed while summoning an ancient yellow weasel spirit, which gave him a fragment of a leyline map inscribed with the words “Gonggong’s Wrath.” The three heirs to the esoteric arts gathered at Poyang Lake because of the bronze mirror. But while deciphering the Twenty-Eight Mansions Formation, they discovered that Li Muzi was an inheritor of Pangu’s bloodline, Qingfeng had the spirit of the Southern Ming Flame Sword sealed within him, and Ma Yi had once been a sacrificial official of the Shang dynasty.
The Xuan Yin Cult’s leader, “Blood-Hand Butcher,” launched a blood sacrifice of the living, hoping to reopen the Eye of the Yellow Springs Sea with the bronze mirror. Li Muzi reversed the leylines with the Qingwu Classic; Qingfeng summoned the Southern Ming Flame Sword to break the formation; and Ma Yi tore open the underworld with the power of the immortals. When the seven fragments of the bronze mirror came together to form the Cosmic Star-Dipper Disc, it pointed straight to the Antarctic pyramid. There lay the turbid energy left behind when Pangu created the world, the source of the apocalypse of the waning Dharma age.
The novel introduces an original “leyline mechanics” system, combining feng shui geomancy with physical mechanics. The spirit-medium “immortal pacts” give folk beliefs deeper chains of cause and effect, while the Xuan Yin Cult’s “blood-sacrifice technology” blends gu poison with Western chemistry. Three thousand years of reincarnation, five epic volumes. When the Big Dipper is turned upside down and the Three Enclosures reunite, the apocalypse of the waning Dharma age is about to descend...
