I Suffer from Being Neither Foolish Nor Wise

[Mystery + deduction + female protagonist + redemption + tragedy]

As cherry blossoms blanket Cizhou Terrace year after year,

some see blood, some see hope,

and Yu Benxi sees herself:

imperfect, not sacred,

but still capable of being a shore for millions.

“Dr. Song, if I can’t keep going, will you think I’m useless?”

“No. I’ll think… this world doesn’t deserve a girl as wonderful as you.”

Yu Benxi never imagined that the death of her subordinate, Linda, would tear open the disguise of her perfect world.

Still less did she expect that the key to uncovering the truth would lie in the hands of a woman named Lin Ci. Prayer beads rolled between her fingers, she could speak the cruelest truths in the gentlest voice.

The workplace is a battlefield, the family a den of parasites, and even hope is a trap set by loan apps.

One dissects despair with data, the other measures the human heart with compassion. Together, they head toward a deadly game whose end has long been decided.

It turns out every suicide is a murder.

And the price of saving one person is another person’s willing sacrifice.

[This is a story about “seeing.” Seeing pain, seeing light, seeing the cries for help of those drowning beneath the calm surface.]
