At 3:17 a.m. in Ningzhou, “abnormal” things are always happening: the walls of buildings slated for demolition weep, the shadow of the bridge over the river ensnares people, and the pocket watch at Seventh Psychiatric Hospital ticks all by itself.
Chen Mo is a madman branded with “delusions,” yet he can see words hidden in shadows and hear time weeping inside gears. When men in white coats chase “Sequence Carriers” with nets, and “cleaners” use ink to write the truth onto paper, he finally realizes that what people call madness is simply glimpsing another face of the world.
The eyes inside bridge piers, the bones in the clock factory, the ink at the pen repair shop... These “Sequences,” hidden in the folds of the city, are forgotten memories and mirrors of the human heart. Chen Mo and his friends, a group of “madmen,” are using their flesh and blood to fight the “normal world” that seeks to erase everything.
After all, sometimes the courage of madness is the light that pierces illusion.
