After the Investiture of the Gods, the deities each take up their duties in the Heavenly Court. Then, one day, the Investiture List suddenly shatters for unknown reasons. The deities’ souls leave the list and descend into the mortal world, leaving their divine positions vacant and plunging the Three Realms into chaos. Among them are benevolent gods and evil gods, but under the influence of the mortal world’s turbid energy, they all lose their divine nature. Some become dazed and confused, some commit evil deeds, and others reincarnate or possess people in the modern world. It is now the 21st century. To invest the gods anew, the Heavenly Court summons Jiang Ziya to discuss the matter. The protagonist is Jiang Ziya’s disciple in the mortal world. With Jiang Ziya preparing for the new investiture, he returns to Kunlun Mountain and sends his disciple Jiang Xiaoya down the mountain with the God-Thrashing Whip to find the deities from the Investiture List. Thus begins a new tale of the Investiture of the Gods in the 21st century.
