The Buddhist Sutra on the Non-Activity of All Dharmas

The Sutra on the Non-Activity of All Dharmas

Thus have I heard. At one time, the Buddha was in the Vulture Peak of Rajagriha, accompanied by five hundred great monks and ninety-two thousand bodhisattvas. Among them were Bodhisattva Mahasattva Adorned with All Virtues, Bodhisattva Lion's Gait, Bodhisattva King of Pure Light Without Obstruction, Bodhisattva Sovereign King atop the High Mountain, Bodhisattva Pure Light of Joyful Love, Bodhisattva Light That Outshines the Sun and Moon, Bodhisattva Wonderful Pure Mustache, Bodhisattva Body Radiating Lotus Light, Bodhisattva King of Brahma's Independent Voice, Bodhisattva King Lion's Voice Who Sports in the World, Bodhisattva Golden-Hued Pure Light and Majestic Virtue, Bodhisattva Gentle Body, Bodhisattva Body Adorned with Golden Marks, Bodhisattva Ten Lights That Shatter Mara's Power, Bodhisattva Whose Faculties and Demeanor Are Well Composed, Bodhisattva Virtue Like a High Mountain, Bodhisattva Heavenly Voice, and Bodhisattva Dharma Son's Gait.

Seeing this great assembly, they rose from their seats, bared their right shoulders, knelt with their right knees on the ground, joined their palms toward the Buddha, and asked in verse:

Bodhisattva Sovereign Wanderer,

Bodhisattva Mountain Virtue, Pure Body,

Bodhisattva Mahasattva Wonderful Virtue,

And ninety-two thousand others like them.

At that time, the great teacher, the World-Honored One, was praised by countless names of virtue. Now this great assembly has gathered here, hoping you will teach the Dharma of quiescence. Wrong views, craving, arrogance, jealousy, and anger: how can these be the path? With great skillful means, you speak aloud. Urgent wine and worldly dharmas are no different. You teach with compassion, without any hindrance, showing that they are the same as liberation.
