I want a period-era story with a pocket dimension where the leads appear early. They should be selfish, refuse to become sworn family, be tight with their money, and be clever, capable, and strong. They should cut off unwanted romantic entanglements themselves, communicate clearly, avoid misunderstandings, and not be saintly or constantly helping the poor. I don’t want lots of siblings, either. (No stories where someone is nice to you once, so you’re ten times or a hundred times nicer to them.)
