At three in the morning, the police banged on my door. “Your neighbor, Gu Huaian. We need him to help with an investigation.”
Through the crack in the door, I saw him surrounded by a group of men in suits, flashing police lights behind them.
“Help with an investigation? He's obviously a mob boss!” I declared, clutching my pajamas around me.
Later, I saw him receive a commendation banner at the police station with my own eyes, and finally realized those “bodyguards” were all undercover cops.
Holding his certificate, he gave a wry smile. “I'm really not a bad guy. I just have so much money the police have to help me count it.”
When a police car pulled up outside my door late at night again, I dashed out wrapped in a blanket. “What did you do this time?”
He smiled and handed me a cup of coffee. “Don't panic. Captain Zhang is here to deliver a commendation banner, and while he's at it, he wants to ask if you'd like to move in together.”
