My Book-Transmigrator Cousin Mistook a Political Intrigue Novel for a Sweet Romance

At the Duke’s garden party, her cousin Su Yuyao “slips” and falls toward Crown Prince Xie Heng. “Your Highness is so irresistibly charming that people are always treating me like a thorn in their side and coming to cause trouble.” Shen Zhiwei says with a smile. “They’re just clowns, not worth mentioning. But in the end, I am the one who’s caused you trouble…” Shen Zhiwei looks up at him, curious. A flicker of amusement passes through Xie Heng’s eyes. “…As my future Crown Princess, you’ll have to put up with me.” … After all the dust has settled and the new emperor has ascended the throne. The imperial garden. Xie Heng sees her admiring the flowers and hurries over, drawing her into his arms. “Zhiwei… let me… hold you for a while.” At that moment, all thoughts of imperial majesty and courtly strife vanish into the distance. He only wants to make sure she is here, to be certain that this cool moonlight is truly held in his arms. A faint breath, barely audible and almost like a sigh, escapes her lips. She relaxes and leans against Xie Heng. Her hands rest over his as she quietly gazes at the brilliantly blooming flowers before her. Love is an embellishment for an emperor, but for his consorts… it is often a shackle that leads to ruin. What she seeks is the small space at the desk in Kunning Palace where she can plan and strategize, the power to make silent moves in court, and a position of invincibility for herself and the Duke of Zhenguo’s household. Love? It is scenery beyond the chessboard, something to admire, but never to become lost in. Perhaps Xie Heng’s burning gaze once stirred a ripple in her heart, but the dam of reason has always stood firm.
