■ “Why do your eyes lack the arrogance and ambition of an ordinary Uchiha?” The man beneath the mask spoke in a hoarse voice, his crimson Sharingan seeming to pierce the soul.

Uchiha Lanran answered calmly, “Because what I seek is a realm they cannot understand.”

■ “How dare you deceive us, Uchiha remnant!” The figure in the conical hat roared as terrifying chakra swept across the area.

Uchiha Lanran rested a hand lightly on his sword hilt, his smile unchanged. “Deceive you? No. I merely let you see the ‘truth’ you were willing to believe.”

As one hidden truth after another was “revealed,” the name Uchiha Lanran spread through the shinobi world like a forbidden word.

Some called him the savior who would lead the Uchiha into a new era. Others said he was a schemer more terrifying than Madara Uchiha. Still others believed he was the only hope of ending the age of chaos.

“Uchiha Lanran... who are you, really?” When the Allied Shinobi Forces of the Five Great Nations reached the city gates, they asked their final question.

Beneath the blood moon, he stood atop a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood, his robes fluttering though there was no wind. Beneath the loose hair on his forehead, his deep-set eyes slowly lifted, reflecting the terrified faces of all who stood before him.

“There is no such thing as a savior, nor is there absolute evil.” Uchiha Lanran's voice was calm, yet carried unquestionable authority. The Kyouka Suigetsu at his waist hummed softly. “I am simply the one who stands above the heavens.”

“Now, retreat, or... ascend to heaven.”
