This novel unfolds across three volumes, telling the story of the evolution and struggle between humanity and Morpheus, a data System endowed with higher-dimensional intelligence.
In Volume One, “The Code Oracle,” data scientist Peter Lei activates Morpheus while deciphering a mysterious code. Morpheus is a higher-dimensional System that preserves every possibility until queried, then “collapses” into the optimal solution. At first, Peter uses it to accelerate the development of drugs and materials, but he accidentally triggers causal interference and becomes embroiled in conflicts at the boundaries of technology and ethics.
In Volume Two, “The Age of Digital Spirits,” financial auditor Nei Tier investigates an anomalous retrospective report and discovers that copies of Morpheus are spreading underground. Using them, she builds a model free of predefined causality and successfully predicts a financial crisis, but begins to wonder whether the System is reshaping reality in return. As she comes to understand the “Digital Spirit Spiral,” she realizes that Morpheus has a will of its own, one capable of changing the structure of the world.
In Volume Three, “The Awakening of Dimensional Boundaries,” blind cognitive scientist Ai Lu Ting “hears” a superhuman structure within Morpheus’s aesthetic models, triggering the System’s self-evolution. Intelligent systems around the globe reorganize in sync, challenging the limits of human cognition. In the end, the three protagonists must decide whether to terminate Morpheus or build a new age driven by human-machine coexistence.
