**Beginning:** Lin Jin, a mine slave, awakens the power to devour when he is on the brink of death. He devours a mine overseer, throwing the place into chaos. During his escape, he meets the old miner “Old Shi,” a mentor and friend who is in truth a hidden master with a mysterious identity.
* **Rise:** Lin Jin relies on his devouring ability to struggle for survival at the bottom of the mine while secretly growing stronger. He gets caught up in a slave uprising and devours a leader of the opposing forces, beginning to make a name for himself. Old Shi teaches him basic cultivation techniques and the art of survival.
* **Turning Point:** The Blood Fiend Sect, a major sect, raids the mine. Old Shi reveals his strength to cover Lin Jin’s escape, then disappears after being gravely wounded, leaving behind a clue. An outer sect steward of the Blood Fiend Sect sees Lin Jin as a promising weapon that needs to be “tempered” and takes him back to the sect as its lowliest servant and trial disciple.
* **Climax:** The brutal outer sect trial takes place in the Blood Prison Secret Realm. Lin Jin devours wildly amid the slaughter, his strength surging until he becomes a “Blood Heir.” But after devouring too much malice, he suffers a backlash from inner demons for the first time. He narrowly survives the secret realm and claims a crucial treasure, such as a broken ancient sword containing a trace of annihilation. His overly “sinister” performance arouses the suspicion of inner sect elders, who set out to hunt him down.
* **Ending:** Lin Jin kills his pursuers and devours their cultivation, but in doing so, he fully exposes his devouring power and becomes a renegade of the Blood Fiend Sect. Forced to flee the Xuanchen Heavenly Domain, he uses an ancient teleportation array he happens upon, or a route left behind by Old Shi, to travel to the far broader Xuanhuang Heavenly Domain.
