Caiwei Never Came Home

Nie Caiwei, the treasured jewel of the cultivation sects, was imprisoned atop Qishan under the name “Wen Shanshan.” Her father was murdered when she was nine, and her golden core was destroyed when she was sixteen. Her vendetta ran too deep to ever be forgotten. Her childhood friend Wen Xu tried to rescue her, but only drove her further into the demon’s grasp. After pregnancy, miscarriage, and poison hidden in rouge, her despair turned back on her, prompting Wen Ruohan to sigh as he brushed her lips: “Shanshan, my divine art is complete, and I am immune to every poison. No toxin in this world can harm me in the slightest.”

Seeing the hatred carved into her heart, her resolve to die alongside him, her longing for Wei Ying, and her wish to be freed from a life she no longer wanted, the tyrant chose the cruelest form of possession: he tore out her soul and refined the most beautiful woman in the cultivation world into an exquisite puppet, incapable of thought or feeling.

As Nightless City fell, even in the moment before Wen Ruohan breathed his last, he was thinking of the cold puppet: “...Shanshan... is still waiting for me to come home...”

At the very moment Wen Ruohan returned to the underworld, Wen Xu sacrificed himself for the Dao. He tore open his flesh and poured the scorching blood from his heart over the puppet. Blood-red light shot into the sky, and the rose was reborn. Caiwei’s soul finally returned.

Peace finally came to the cultivation world. Lan Xichen was as gentle as ever, Lan Wangji’s gaze was deep as the sea, Jiang Cheng’s Zidian glinted with frost, and Meng Yao’s handsome face was cold as ice. All four peerless young men vowed never to marry, hearts heavy with sorrow.

Only Wei Wuxian stood silently beside her. In the first light of dawn, he held the infant left behind by Wen Chao, Wen Xu’s brother, and whispered:

“Caiwei, the snow on Qishan has melted.”

The boy was named Nie Yuan (Nie Sizhui). He opened his eyes, still innocent and confused.

She gazed into the distant mountains. Wen Xu’s hot blood piercing through her chest, the cold snow of Wen Ruohan’s three-year imprisonment, young Wei Wuxian’s laughter as he turned Gusu upside down...

The reborn rose has taken in the grandson of her enemy. Whose snow-clearing, sunny day is she waiting for? No one knows.
