Rain on the Locust Trees of Zhaoling

During the Zhenguan era, Crown Prince Li Chengqian is left with a damaged leg after falling from his horse, and sinks into insecurity. With his father, Emperor Li Shimin, trying to control him and his brother, Prince Li Tai, threatening him, he must tread carefully. He endures humiliation as regent, provides disaster relief, and puts down rebellions. Despite his limp, he breaks the curse that says a crown prince cannot hold on to his position, learning to balance benevolence and might amid the whirlpool of power. He dares to defy an imperial decree and open the granaries to save the people, yet also ruthlessly crushes plots to rebel. When Li Shimin finally understands his son's way of protecting the realm on his deathbed, Li Chengqian takes up the legacy of Zhenguan with the Yonghui Reforms. The throne of the limping crown prince becomes another ray of light shining on the flourishing Tang dynasty. His life proves that the path to true emperorship is measured not by one's legs, but by the people's hearts.
