Time for Atonement

Gu Chengze is a rising star in the business world, cold and heartless. To protect his family’s empire, he personally sent his beloved fiancée, Lin Wan, to the defendant’s dock, condemning her to five years in prison for “corporate espionage.” Before the prison bars separated them, she asked him just one question: “Gu Chengze, will you regret this?” He answered without hesitation, convinced she had betrayed him.

Five years later, Lin Wan is released from prison, stripped of all her former glamour, with only a frail, ravaged body and a bleak gaze left. Gu Chengze tries to make amends with money, but she tears up his check and declares, “Your money is dirty, Mr. Gu.” He thinks this is the end of her hatred, unaware that it is the beginning of fate’s judgment.

When Lin Wan suddenly collapses in front of him, a diagnosis of “late-stage stomach cancer” detonates like thunder. Gu Chengze’s world begins to crumble. As he frantically revisits the so-called “irrefutable evidence” from back then, he discovers to his horror that the carefully fabricated chain of evidence that put Lin Wan behind bars was the work of his own respected father! And the document Lin Wan had raced to compile before her imprisonment, the one she was ultimately convicted of “stealing,” was actually the only medical treatment plan that could have saved his mother’s life.

The truth cuts him to pieces like a poisoned blade. Kneeling beside Lin Wan’s bed as she lies at death’s door, he hears her whisper, barely able to breathe: “Now... do you regret it?” Heart-rending pain swallows every word, leaving only endless despair and atonement for the rest of his life. The torment he once inflicted with his own hands ultimately consumes him, with no escape.
